Abstract:

Video-assisted thoracic surgery has been applied for surgical treatment of non-small cell lung cancer since early 1990s. After more than 20 years’ development, the technique of video-assisted thoracic surgery has been matured. The feasibility and safety of video-assisted thoracic surgery in the treatment of early stagelung cancer has been widely accepted, and video-assisted thoracic surgery is now considered as a standard surgical approach for these patients according to different guidelines. However, the use of this minimally invasive approach for the complicated thoracic surgeries, like sleeve lobectomy, is still controversial. There are only case reports and small retrospective case series of video-assisted thoracoscopic sleeve lobectomy in the literature until now. This paper aims to review the studies and technical development of video-assisted thoracoscopic sleeve lobectomy.
