The anatomical structure of superior sulcus is complex. The invasive growth of lung cancer or other tumors in apex of the lung often invade the surrounding blood vessels, nerves, bone and other tissues. In this review, we take superior pulmonary sulcus tumor as an example to discuss the development of surgery, summarize the thoracic inlet anatomy and surgical difficulties, and prospect the future treatment patterns of superior pulmonary sulcus tumor.

Key words: Anterior approach, Superior pulmonary sulcus tumor, Thoracic inlet, Subclavian artery, Brachial plexus nerve
