Abstract:

Minimally-invasive surgery for the treatment of lung cancer, which is represented by video-assisted thoracic surgery, has developed for more than 20 years with gradually matured techniques and established status. The progression of modern video-assisted thoracoscopic lung cancer surgery could be divided into four stages, including: (1) the standardization and simplification of routine operations; (2) challenging complicated operations; (3) exploring strategies for the prevention and management of intraoperative accidents; (4)marching toward the minimally-invasiveness and precision surgery. All resectable lung cancer could potentially be removed through the thoracoscopic approach. Lung cancer surgery is to be more minimally-invasive and precise in the future.

Key words: Lung cancer, Minimally-invasive surgery, Video-assisted thoracic surgery
