Successful TNM classification is the key factor for the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis prediction of lung cancer. The 7^th edition of the TNM Classification for Non-small-cell Lung Cancer, which was proposed in 2009 by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), has been widely used in clinical practice. With the advancement of therapeutic model and emerge of novel diagnostic techniques and treatment methods for lung cancer, the therapeutic effects and prognosis have been significantly improved, and the classification criteria are ready to be updated. Therefore, The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer(IASLC) renewed the TNM classification of lung cancer in September 2015, and the forthcoming 8^th edition of the TNM Classification for Lung Cancer will be formally adopted in January 2017. The new classification criteria have enrolled a new database of 94, 708 cases of lung cancer between 1999 and 2010 obtained from 35 sources in 16 countries around the globe. The new edition of TNM classificationof lung cancer is interpreted in this paper.
