Abstract:
Objective
The study analyzes the effectiveness of different gender with esophageal cancer therapy .
Methods
Clinical data of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients who had successfully completed radical resection of tumors in the First Department Thoracic Surgery in Fujian Medical University Affiliated Union Hospital from January 2015 to December 2017 were collected .Stratified random sampling was conducted using random number table method i .Based on the inclusion criteria and grouping criteria ,cases were selected and divided into male and female group with each has 53 cases according to the proportion of 1 :1 for each group .General data , surgical status , pathological features of tumor and postoperative adjuvant therapy of the two groups were compared ,and kaplan-meier method was used for survival analysis .
Results
Male and female cases had no significant statistical difference ( P>0 .05) in patient s age , body mass index(BMI) , preoperative complications incidence ,tumor location ,tumor differentiation degree ,number of dissected intraoperative lymph node ,number of positive lymph nodes , postoperative pathologic staging , length of hospital stay , and the incidence of postoperative adjuvant treatment .There was no statistical difference in intraoperative blood loss between the female group and the male group ( P>0 .05) ,but the total postoperative drainage volume in the male group was higher than that in the female group ( P<0 .05) , and the incidence of postoperative complications in the male group (28 .30% ) was significantly higher than that in the female group (9 .43% ) ( P<0 .05) .The results of survival analysis showed that the 1-year disease-free survival rate of the female group was better than that of the male group ( P<0 .05) , and the difference in 1-year overall survival rate was not statistically significant ( P>0 .05) .There was no significant difference in 3-year disease-free survival rate or overall survival rate between the male and female groups ( P>0 .05) .
Conclusions
Female patients would get more survival benefit than male patients on treatment of esophageal cancer patients with or without adjuvant therapy .
